Sean Beaven
We recently asked Sean Beaven (Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, No Doubt) a few questions.

You're currently working on the new Marilyn Manson record. What makes this project different from previous projects?
SB: Well it is the first time I've ever had to cancel sessions because the singer has an art opening at a museum. This project is a real homecoming for all of us. It is the first time that Chris Vrenna, Manson, Twiggy Ramirez, and I have worked together since Anti-Christ Superstar twelve years ago. We feel we have a lot to live up to and we are enjoying the work very much. One of the challenges is not repeating ourselves but still pushing the envelope in true Manson style, and one of the ways we are doing that is through using all the latest technology, Drumagog included.

What role does software play in your music creation approach?
SB: For Manson it plays a big role. He always wants what we are doing to sound like a finished product the whole way through production till the final mix. Software is making that easier at every step in the process. Hearing the right tones fast helps inspire and inform all of us so that improvisation can lead to inspiration.

What musicians/engineers inspire you today and why
SB: I love James Hall and Pleasure Club, Sigur Ros, Tiger Lou, Minature Tigers, Meese, Soulwax, Idaho, and well there are too many to name. I love having an iPod and all my music at my fingertips, but for inspiration I spend most of my time looking back to try to capture what was great to inspire what will be great.

Is there anything you'd like to pass onto Drumagog.com visitors & Drumagog users?
SB: Even if the sounds you start with are awesome, Drumagog can be a perfect tool to enhance and to create that unique sound that becomes definitive.
