Sonar and Cakewalk

Drumagog 4 is now a VST plug-in, and may require additional setup in order to work with Cakewalk products. Drumagog 4 is directly compatible with the following Cakewalk products:

Home Studio 2003
Home Studio 2004
Home Studio XL
Home Studio Version 2
Sonar v3 and later
Project 5 and later

If you own a previous version of a Cakewalk product, an additional adapter is required - the Cakewalk VST to DX adapter. It can be purchased for $59 (or $39 if you're a registered Sonar user) from:
http://store.yahoo.com/cakewalkdirect/cakvstaddow.html

To set up Drumagog for use in your Cakewalk system, follow these steps:

1. Install Drumagog normally.
2. Open your Cakewalk VST to DX adapter. This is done by clicking on Start, Program Files, Cakewalk, VST to DX adapter. (the adapter is included free in the products listed above, or may be purchased separately).
3. Follow the setup wizard. When prompted for the VST plugin location, select "C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VST Plugins".

4. After the wizard is finished, you're all set. Drumagog 4 will appear in your plug-in list as "Drumagog" (under "VST Plugins").

Using Drumagog MIDI output with Sonar and Cakewalk:

Drumagog's MIDI output is not directly compatible with Cakewalk's products. In order to get MIDI output from Drumagog to work correctly, a separate product must be purchased called DirectiXer: http://www.tonewise.com/DirectiXer

This setup only works with the latest version on DirectiXer (v2.5):

1. Install DirectiXer. When installing, make sure you choose to also install the MIDI loopback device (it's checked by default).
2. After installing, open the DirectiXer management console, and add Drumagog to it's list of plugins. To do this, click the add button at the top, then browse for Drumagog.dll. It's usually located in C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VST Plugins.
3. Open Sonar, then click Options, MIDI Devices. Select the DirectiXer midi device as an available midi device on the left. This is very important.
4. Insert Drumagog on a track.
5. At the top of the Drumagog window, make sure "Send MIDI to host through loopback driver" is enabled. This is the button with a picture of two notes.
6. In Drumagog's advanced page, enable "midi out", then set the midi port to "internal".
7. In Sonar, create a new MIDI track. Set the midi input to "DirectiXer loopback", and the midi output to whatever device you want to send midi to.
8. Record-enable this new midi track.
9. If you press record on the transport, you should see the midi events being recorded on the midi track.
