FAQ:

Q: I already have some drum libraries, what makes Steven Slate Drums different?

A: The difference is first and foremost, the sound.  The drum samples on Steven Slate Drums have been masterfully crafted to fit right in a mix with a punchy, larger then life sound that has to be heard to be believed.

Q: What unique features does Steven Slate Drums have?

A:  One unique aspect of Steven Slate Drums is that rather then sample one sound out of a drum, Steven offers drums with various head, various tunings, various dampenings, and through various gear chains, which offers a greater array of sounds for your mixes.  For instance, a slow ballad needs a long decaying drum, where a quick rock mix needs a short dampened drum.   And then of course there is the Z system.

Q:  What is the Z system?

A:  Every mix requires the drums to be in a specific ambient environment.  The Z system makes it easy to choose this environment.  The Z1 is the most common sample.  It is sampled with a minimal amount of ambient micing, making the drum sound three dimensional and punchy.  The Z2 stereo samples retain all of the punch of the Z1s, yet with an added series of processed room mics, making a larger then life sound that is huge in a mix.  The Z3 samples are made to sound as dry as possible, yet still capture the essence of the drum sound.  Z3s are great for speed metal and punk and other musical genres where drums are commonly dry sounding.

Q:  Why are the Z2 samples stereo samples?

A:  In order to capture the sound of the ambience, the Z2 ambient mics were printed in stereo.  This allows them to sound huge and wide, even in dense mixes.

Q:  What drum replacement software do you recommend for use with Steven Slate Drums?

A:  Without question, Drumagog by Wave Machine Labs is the finest drum replacement software available.  There will soon be a free update disc for all buyers of Steven Slate Drums, in GOG format.
